Mountains of Alicante – La Marina
Many of the hoards of people who pass through Alicante airport each year are unaware of the beautiful mountain landscapes that can be found just a few miles inland. The Alicante mountains are dotted with traditional villages linked by ancient tracks, making this area ideal for a walking holiday. Just twenty-five kilometres from the Costa Blanca, the contrast with the popular coastal resorts could not be sharper. On our tour you will enjoy some of the best walking you can experience anywhere in Spain – through beautiful landscape which remains completely unspoiled.
“Donal led walks for us on four holidays – Alicante Mountains, Matarranya, Amalfi and Alpujarras….He is an exceptionally good walk leader and walk organiser who prepares meticulously and establishes a good rapport with all walkers”.
La Serrella valley
Our tour is based in the Serrella valley, whose mountains and walks are the most varied and spectacular in the area. This area feels suitably remote and is perfect walking country, with routes through almond and olive groves and along panoramic ridges and dramatic ravines. It is also an area steeped in history, with Moorish castles, old morisco villages and abandoned terracing.

Flights
Alicante airport is well served by budget airlines – there are cheap flights direct to Alicante from many regional airports in Europe, from where you will be collected – see trip page for more details. Castells is approximately a 1.5 hour from the airport.
Travelling by Train:
It is surprisingly easy to travel from the UK and Northern Europe to Spain by train. Take an afternoon Eurostar from London to Paris in just 2 hours 20 minutes, then the excellent Elipsos trainhotel from Paris to Madrid or Barcelona overnight, with onward train connections for Alicante or Valencia (train fares not included in package).
Timing and weather.
Given the relatively benign climate, for departures throughout the Spring and Autumn the weather should ideal for walking with daytime temperatures generally in the high 20’s. For more information check out http://www.weatheronline.co.uk/Spain/Alcoy.htm
